Fitur ini dapat diakses hanya dengan sekali klik saja lewat menu Tools dan selanjutnya browser akan di-restart. Dalam kondisi ini maka pada title bar di bagian atas akan tampil tulisan bahwa Anda sedang berada pada mode private browsing. Fitur ini juga dapat dibuat permanen dengan cara mengakses about:config setting seperti saat Anda ingin mengubah setting dari browser ini. Seperti pada versi beta sebelumnya, Firefox 3.1 beta 2 ini juga mengusung fitur TraceMonkey. TraceMonkey ini sebenarnya adalah JavaScript engine yang mempercepat proses eksekusi javascript dan tak mempengaruhi kecepatan browsing. Fitur andalan ini sekarang secara default aktif dan mempercepat kinerja browser ini. Seperti disebutkan dalam salah satu berita yang dilansir CNet News hari Senin (08/12/08), fitur private browsing ini juga ditawarkan oleh para pesaing Firefox seperti Chrome dan Safari.
